Welcome to the New Year
I haven't been on LJ much lately. I haven't been on-line much of anywhere lately. Working retail means that my job tends to eat the majority of my mental processing time from mid-November to mid-January.* Getting together with some friends and throwing a convention the first weekend this past November just moved up the start date for my meltdown. And at the moment, I'm in the process of culling & packing my gear, as I need to find new lodgings by the end of January.

So, yeah. It's been busy. It's going to remain that way for a while. I packed up the first boxes of books last night. It seemed an appropriate milestone for the turning of the year.**

*It's going to run longer this time, since they moved our physical inventory forward two months to the end of January. We're going to attempt digging out from the holiday madness whilst and at the same time prepping for inventory. It'll be fun...Really...

**I count the year from the Winter Solstice. Cope. It's no sillier than picking a specific lunar transition, or a particular box on the calendar to anchor your reset to.

1-0 and in the lead in their division...
Final score: 24-17, Dallas over the Giants.

It was a good game. I'd have been happy even if Dallas lost, but I'm happier that they started their season off with a win.

They kicked it deep. It's up to the Giants D with the game on the line...

24-17 Dallas, with 2:36 left in the game. Giants kick off when we get back from the commercial break. On-side kick?

And now we get to see which of these teams will continue last year's patterns. Will Eli lead the Giants to yet another 4th quarter come-back? Will the Cowboys blow yet another 4th quarter lead?
24-10 Dallas in the lead, 3:15 left in the 4th, Eli & co with the ball on the Dallas 12...

Thus far, it's a defensive battle. The Giants intercepted but Dallas held them to a 4th and goal field goal. Can the Cowboys' rebuilt offensive line keep the New York pass rush out of Romo's face? We'll see. They're not showing a lot of cohesion yet.

Jason Witten is suited up and on the field after he received a lacerated pancreas vs the Orkland Raiders three weeks ago.
The Giants will receive.
And there's the kick. Playtime's over. This one counts.

It's been an unhappy day. I'm going to treat my mood by sitting on the couch, eating a bunch of chocolate, and watching the NFL 2012 season opener.

The fact that you can see that things are spiraling and don't care is a sign that you're deeper into the spiral than you thought. Not caring about this fact is A) a sign that you are, in fact, significantly deeper than you realized and B) rather meta.

Yeah. It was always Trent/Melissa in my mind. Denise is cool and all, but Melissa was so much a better fit for him.

It feels like it's been a long day.
So, let's see. Today I have:
Done two loads of laundry.*
Unloaded the dishwasher.
Reloaded the dishwasher.
Cooked dinner.
Run the dishwasher.
Cleaned up the kitchen.
Oh, and I went to work today.

No wonder I'm tired. I think I will forgo dessert and just head for bed.

*Though I haven't folded any of it - there's a mound of clean clothes on my bed.

Predictable does not always equal explicable. Assuming that one equals the other can land you in a world of hurt.

So, yeah...
I haven't posted here in a while. I also haven't been reading here recently. It's not an LJ issue, it's a social media issue. I haven't been on Facebook either. I'm going to try to change that, just so I have a chance to keep up with what's going on with my friends.

In other news, I'm still alive, employed, and out of jail. That's about it for the excitement at the moment.

On the positive side of things, I was able to rescue my music collection from my old desktop HD. I've got tunes again! I pulled about half of the photos/docs/abandonware/etc. across as well. Now I just need to organize it on the new laptop.

Trust me. You want a bell tower, not a clock tower. Bell towers attract bats. Clock towers attract snipers.

Further thoughts on a theme
Another problem with meeting people at conventions: the time frame. Four days is enough to meet new people and go "oooh, shiny!". It's not enough usually enough time for the novelty-shiny aspect to wear off. And then you go home again, with only the unrealistic shiny image in your mind.

That was a long week.
Even though I only worked four days. Of course, it's not like I went into it particularly rested...

-sigh- -query- -light bulb!-
Oh! That's what the problem is: post-con depression.

Funny, I don't usually get this after working a convention. That's usually more of case of post-con relief. What an exciting new learning experience this is! It's like the first time I was jealous!*

*And this time I was able to diagnose it myself. Go me!

EDIT: I'm not stuck in a massive depressing funk. I know what that hole feels like, thanks. This is more of a wistful "wish I was still at con" feeling combined with "I miss X", where X = a large range of people. Honestly, if I'd been able to just stay home and veg today, I'd might have slept through this issue. But thanks for caring. (You know who you are.)

Home again
I'm safely home from Gamestorm. The con rocked, the people rocked even more, the games I played in rocked, our games rocked, and my troupe rocks! It was a very long weekend full of rocking things* and I want to post more about it but now I must sleep so that I can go to work in just over eight hours.

Thank you! Good night! -thud-

Fame at last!
Now that it's up on their website, I have to believe that it's actually happening. I'm going to a convention - as a guest. Not a "you're on staff and we think you're a good choice to fill a hole on this panel" guest. A "we'd like you to come to our convention 'cause we've heard good things about you and think you'll be an asset to our party con" guest. Moreover, a convention that I've never attended. My inner geek thinks that this is pretty damn cool. Heck, my outer geek thinks this is extremely damn cool!

I must admit, for the sake of full disclosure, that this is not a solo effort. catnip13, fionn320, and I are the core staff of the Theatre Arcanos LARP Troupe.* We're attending Gamestorm as a team, where we'll be gaming our minds out as well as running two Dresden Files LARPs over the course of the weekend (Friday & Saturday nights).

So, yeah. I'll be at Gamestorm in Vancouver, WA in just over a week. If you're gonna be in the area, let me know. We're driving up Thursday and home again on Monday, after which I go in to work on Tuesday morning (Yay, Con-lag!).

And if you can't make Gamestorm, we'll be running a LARP at Convolution 2012 in November.**

So, yeah...That's one thing that's been eating my free time lately. Now, I have to finish off two character backgrounds before catnip13 decides to take a hammer to my kneecaps.

*Side note - Our games are currently three of the top five search results on Google for "Dresden Files LARP". Just sayin'...

**Rumors that Convolution 2012 has been renamed "SteveCon2012" are doubtless exaggerated, though the guest list does include Steven Brust, Steve Berman, Julie "Stevie" Dillion, and Howard "Steve-O" Tayler. Rumors of a planned bank job are undoubtedly the fantasies of an overworked imagination.

I find it amusing to be up before the cats. Usually, they'll come wandering into the kitchen while I'm making breakfast.
Whatcha doin'? Is that for me? Pet me!

At 0540, they can't be bothered to investigate the noises I'm making.

Right. I've been lying here in the dark for half an hour. Time to get up and do something productive while I'm not sleeping.
